From a country carpenter to a brand represented in the four corners of the world.
Michel FERRAND started out on his own in 1976 as a cabinet-maker in the small village of Torcé Viviers en Charnie. Building on his success, he began trading with French shops in 1992. He breathed new life into traditional French cabinet-making by perfecting the patinas on his furniture. Seven years later, he exhibited for the first time at the High Point show in the United States (the world’s largest furniture and interior design show). Over the years, a high-performance team has been built up, adapting to national and international demand.
Michel FERRAND is now present in around twenty countries. Each piece of furniture is made to order in our workshops in Portugal, allowing an infinite number of combinations to be adapted to any interior. The company is committed to quality manufacturing and French know-how. Since 2017, the 2 sons Guillaume and Martin have taken up the torch to continue this fine family story. Today, Michel FERRAND’s style is defined by its eclecticism. We revisit all the styles of French furniture: rustic furniture, classic furniture, industrial furniture and modern furniture. Always with the same care given to each piece to guarantee the highest quality.
Our history
The early days of Michel Ferrand
At the age of 23, Michel moved in with his wife and bought the old village school to set up his workshop. The young cabinetmaker, who had just completed his apprenticeship, sold copies of antique furniture locally.
The click
Michel quickly realized that to grow, he had to differentiate himself and offer a unique product. With a passion for antiques, he came up with the idea of making furniture from old wood. He bought old beams from demolished houses and barns. This is the starting point for his recipe for an incomparable patina.
The meeting
After meeting a sales agent, the small workshop took off again. Convinced by the quality and unique patina of Michel’s furniture, the young salesman offered it to furniture dealers all over France. The success was immediate. Numerous partnerships were formed with furniture shops all over France. Some of these shops are still loyal relays for the brand to the general public, and we’re proud of them.
The turning point
1998 marked a major turning point in the export market. Michel was exhibiting at the Salon du Meuble in Paris when an American importer fell under the spell of Michel FERRAND’s furniture. He offered to import the furniture from the other side of the Atlantic. The story continues to this day, with many American partner shops.
Reinforcing youth
In 2004, Michel and Marie-Hélène’s youngest son, Guillaume, joined the family business. With his business school training in management control, he became involved in the technical and financial side of the business.
New sales support
In 2010, Guillaume’s brother Martin joined the team. Passionate about business, Martin is brimming over with new ideas for continuing to offer new models. He assists Michel in looking after French customers, and quickly finds his feet to pursue international development.
The recovery
In 2018, the two sons officially took over the marketing of the Michel FERRAND brand to keep this wonderful family story alive.

Our manufacturing process is designed to minimise our ecological footprint and to protect you. We aim to optimise the entire supply chain to reduce our carbon footprint. We source sustainable materials from certified and renewable sources. Finally, the finishing products used on our furniture are of the highest quality, at a time when we are seeing many drifts in finishing practices.
Mastering wood
Each piece of furniture we create is the result of almost 50 years of expertise and meticulous attention to detail. Our highly skilled craftsmen master traditional techniques and combine them with modern methods to create unique pieces. We carefully select the finest woods, ensuring that they are sourced ethically and sustainably. Thanks to our know-how, we are able to transform these raw materials into top-quality creations that bring out the very best in the wood.
